25-28 may 2007 Memorial wkend~

Memorial day is a day to commemorates soldiers who have died for the state. Now it is basically a long wkend holiday for ppl to relax and enjoy themselves. Pple from all over came to wildwood for a wkend getaway. It was definitely a different scene here during the wkend. The supermarts were more crowded than usual, with longer queues and more cashiers lanes opened. I felt as if we had just been transformed from a dead city to one which felt more lively, with more cars and ppl on the streets.

At work, it was just one word- BUSY! Never have i seen just big crowd in the park. Even Theresa and some others who have worked here for the past few years said they have never seen anything like this. The queues at the ticketing booths seems never-ending. Theresa told me not to look at the line, coz it can be quite intimitating and stressful. They even had two extra pple in in the evenings to help at the mega booth. Of coz, long queues proved to be problematic. I can feel for those who queued for like 20 min, only to be directed to a different place. But hey there is nothing much i can do..

On saturday, the busiest day of the weekend, the power supply was down at about 5pm for the whole ML. Omg the whole pier, from the rides to the restrooms to our computer system just stop working suddenly! They even had to manually turn the balloon race to get the kids down. Luckily the roller coaster wasnt stuck in mid-air at that time. It surely gave us a break, but not for long as some people started enquiring about the situation and demanding for refunds. We became like recorders, repeatedly saying "Yes we are opened, but our power is down at the moment. We are unsure when we will get the power back but we hope it will not take long." I couldnt even eat my MaChicken in peace. Luckily the power came back at around 6plus. And the queues came back too.. That night we opened till about 12.45 am, probably to make up for the time of the power loss. So that day, i worked for about 13hrs, i think the longest that i have ever worked in a day. Totally shagged..

Sunday was the first time a chinese guest has spoken to me in chinese, and its in canto! There is an instant sense of familiarity, even though we have never met before. I mean i have seen quite many Asian chinese around in US but except for those in chinatown, all speak English, with an american accent. And the funny thing is that the guy said he always speak chinese 你好!whenever he sees one.
