Dec 2008

The holidays are over =( but this holiday has opened my eyes to things in society quite abit.

I have realised a lot of things have been taken for granted.. Should be glad that we have freedom, privacy, a room to ourselves or even a bed to sleep on..

Just finish a phase of RA work for a prof. I guess i have been living in a glasshouse for much of my life. Just the other day, child abn prof was saying "those of u from jc would ask 'whats drug abuse?' ". That was quite funny, but i guess there is a certain degree of truth to it. My schooling years so far have been nothing but academic woes. what i have been reading in the case files recently seems so foreign and distant.. smoking, gangs, glue sniffing, truancy, abscondments, pilfering, tatoos, bad influence, fights and the list goes on.. I guess a lot of things become what they are, because of the role that the parents play. Most parents are concerned about their children, yet do not know how to handle them and may end up giving up/in. While others would just leave their kids for other people to take care, then what's the point of giving birth to them in the first place? Suddenly parenting skills seem so important, afterall, no one is born as a parent, and a child's future and life are really in the hands of the parents. It is really saddening to read about how these young ppl just wasted their lives away bcos of an inability to withstand temptation, bad influence, and the lack of strong family support. At the same time, they also bring great pain and worries to the parents...
